WHAT DO WE DO...

Find out about what keeps us busy, how we walk the talk...

Five objectives of PLUS-Kenya.

1. In the field

- REVERSING GULLY DEVELOPMENT - Oltayani Primary School has PLUS-Kenya's special support to improve rainwater harvesting, reduce runoff, and rehab of the land just below the school.

- RIVERBASIN REHAB - Rongo district communities will be supported to review land use and address degradation on-farm and in grazing areas; innovations are already developing on the ground (see innovations including Caleb's paddock, on-farm vegetative hedges with Vetiver). This is eventually to be part of a larger scale initiative to address land degradation in the entire riverbasin.

- EMPOWERING for WATERSHED MANAGEMENT - We currently developing a partnership with 'Empowering Livest Int.' in Kerio Valley,  to assist Water Resource User Associations to reverse land degradation, mitigating the impact of drought and floods, and creating employement to support peacebuilding. In this, PLUS-Kenya's input is through provision of materials (video, slide shows, extension materials), training, and technical advice. Read the report of the first workshop & field visit in Kerio Valley ...

- HANDICRAFT - When funds allow, PLUS-Kenya will organize a training on handicraft making with Vetiver.

2. Info sharing

Sharing experiences on land & water resource management practices, innovations, approaches.

Our main tool for now is this website. Our work will also be communicated through the press and in the annual Nairobi Trade fair & Agric. Our field work - and that of others - will be shared through field visits. - Website development: links to relevant organisations, members.

3. Policy advocacy

Policy advocacy by PLUS-Kenya will follow a rational, collaborative, non-political approach.

The focus is on reversing land degradation to improve water & sanitation, food security, rural livelihoods. So far we actively engaged organisations in different Ministries (NEMA, NEMA, WRMA), some MPs, international organisations coordinated in OCHA, WWF. This list is not complete.

4. Resource mobilization

Maybe we can help you to find funds? For members: on the login page you find some tips (websites of donor organisations).

5. Developing PLUS-Kenya

Beween vision and visible results...

We never stop to further develop our vision, but for the moment our vision is best captured by the documentary of John D. Liu: Hope in a Changing Climate ...

We have ambitions and plans, and a competent board.

Here's a financial update...

Yet, we need to strengthen our board, broaden our network, and engage members...

But for now, most of all, at this moment: we need funding!
