The Strategic Objective is to provide a forum to promote innovations for sustainable Land and Water Resource Management.
The five objectives are as follows.
1. Engaging and enabled partners actually working on the ground. This is through building their capacity to improve the use of land & water resources
This is a combination of reflection on functional ecosystems, developing the extension and upscaling approach, technical training and design of options, and planning, M&E (community level and/or higher watershed level).
2. Information and experience sharing on innovations through a public platform. This includes technical info as well as approaches for extension, upscaling.
3. An enhanced, enabling policy environment for sustainable Land & Water Resource Management.
4. Members’ Resource Mobilization supported.
5. PLUS-Kenya Organizational Development Organizational development activities (network and partnership development, programme development).

The five objectives are as follows. 1. Engaging with people and projects actually working on the ground, by building their capacity to improve the use of land & water resources In the field we facilitate a combination of: - reflection on the function of land and water resources, - technical training and design of options, and - planning, monitoring and evaluation. By engaging the competences of PLUS-Kenya’s membership, we can work on community level as well as on larger catchment or watershed level. And we can support approaches to ensure successful adoption, extension and up-scaling of innovations as mentioned in section 2. 2. Information and experience sharing on innovations Information and experience on innovations related to sustainable Land & Water Resource Management are shared through a public platform; this includes online sharing, publications, and field exchange visits. The information and experience sharing will include technical innovations addressing: 1. AGRICULTURE: On-farm Soil and Water Conservation and Soil Fertility Management, in isolation or as part of crop-based, integrated packages (that extend to storage, processing & marketing): - contour farming and permeable hedges against erosion (Vetiver System), terracing - minimum tillage, mulching, composting - integrated systems like vegetable / fish pond farming or night paddock / vegetable farming - Vetiver Systems – on-farm including use of by-products for fodder, storage / pest control, housing materials, handicraft, bio-fuel. 2. LIVESTOCK: Livestock and Feed Resource Management and Development. 3. FORESTRY: Assisting rehabilitation of degraded land/forest: re-vegetation, re-forestation including: - rehab of shallow/degraded/problem soils (to prepare for use in farming and reforestation) - protection of vulnerable slopes with landslide risk (e.g. where a fire hazard affected natural vegetation or tree plantations) - protection of sand dunes against water (carrying sand from dune toes) and wind (Vetiver System). 4. INFRASTRUCTURE PROTECTION: Bio-engineering to improve drainage, stabilise slopes, including: - slope stabilisation along riverbanks, roads/railways, canals, dams, etc. (Vetiver System) - silt traps to prevent siltation of dams, canals (Vetiver System) - road/railway drainage (bio-)engineering, gully plugging (Vetiver System and other). 5. WATER & SANITATION: - water harvesting rainwater from roofs, water pans, and/or small dams. - prevention and treatment of contaminated water and land (Vetiver System combined with other): - small and large wastewater treatment systems - industrial waste water (including agro-industry, urban industries) and mine rehab. 3. An enabling policy environment enhanced The development of enabling policies for sustainable Land & Water Resource Management is enhanced with policy research and dialogue, supported by awareness raising activities. 4. Members’ Resource Mobilization supported Members are supported in their efforts to mobilize resources for activities supporting sustainable Land & Water Resource Management. 5. PLUS-Kenya Organizational Development Organizational development activities include network and partnership development, programme development and resource mobilization.
